Music News – October 16, 2014

Two Tons of Steel will perform their first ever tribute show tonight when they take the stage at the Brauntex Theatre to play 90 minutes of their favorite Elvis songs. Kevin Geil, lead singer and founding member of the iconic Texas band, graciously agreed to participate in the upcoming fundraising series at the local theatre. With over two decades of playing all over Texas and the surrounding states, Two Tons still remain one of the most loved bands around. Known for high energy live shows and Geil’s powerful vocals, they can tackle any format of music they want. I spoke with Kevin several times about this show and he’s got some cool things planned. The other band members include Jake Marchese on bass, Brian Duarte on lead guitar and Paul Ward on drums. Be sure to stop by their merchandise table in the lobby and get a copy of their fantastic new CD, “Unraveled.” General admission tickets are just $5 at the door, so come at 6:30pm when the doors open so you can get a good seat. The show starts about 7:30pm.

In other Brauntex news, Saturday night marks the official start of their new season, so check out the opening night show, ‘Broadway to Brauntex,’ featuring a great all-star cast of singers performing all of your favorite Broadway tunes. Tickets are available at and the show starts at 7:30pm.

While we are on the subject of Broadway, did you know that Sebastian Bach, the lead singer for the hard rock band Skid Row, once performed on Broadway in the ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ musical? Born in the Bahamas and raised in Canada, Bach started his first band called Kid Wikkid in Toronto when he was just 14. Skid Row was formed in 1980 with Matt Fallon as their lead singer, but Bach was hired when Fallon left the band in 1987. He stayed with the band until 1996 when he left to start a solo career. Since then he’s appeared in several TV shows on VH1 and has participated in a few super group projects. Why all this info about Bach? Well, he’s going to be at River Road Ice House on December 4 for his ‘Give’em Hell’ tour to promote his new CD of the same name. Bach will be performing all your favorite Skid Row hits plus all the best of his solo career including the new tunes. It’s cool to see some good classic rock in our area. They brought Ted Nugent to town back in July, so keep up the good work guys. Ticket prices range from $25 to $40 and are on-sale now at

Sometimes, change is good and that’s why Oktoberfest at Anhalt Hall is changing from Sunday to Saturday for the first time in 138 years. If you’ve never been to this beautiful historic venue, you owe it to yourself to check it out. They don’t make dancehalls like this anymore and that’s a shame. The fun begins about noon and goes until 11pm. Boot scootin’ tunes will be provided by the Red Raven Polka Band at 2pm followed by Darrell McCall at 7pm. See all the details, directions, ticket prices and schedule at

One of my all-time favorite singers, Sean McConnell, will be playing tonight for the third show in the KNBT Free Music Series at Whitewater Amphitheater. Sean’s new song, ‘Rock & Roll, from his latest CD ‘The B Side Sessions’ is simply amazing and I highly recommend you picking up a copy if you attend this show. John Baumann will open the show for Sean.

Last but most certainly not least, please plan on attending the ‘Jammin’ for Georgia’ benefit this Sunday at Gruene Estates located at 532 Rock Street. It’s for our dear friend Georgia Williams who is battling ovarian cancer. Georgia publishes the super cool Moxie Magazine you see around town. The benefit starts at 5pm and features tons of cool silent auction items plus great live music by Chris & Judy, Pete & Sean and Monty ‘Guitar’ Tyler. We take care of our own in this town so if possible, please stop by and support this event. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door or online at
